The inner wall of bamboo contains less fibers and provide its vibration dampening effects.
The fiber dense outer layers provide an extremely high tensile strength, giving bamboo a higher tensile strength than steel.
Bamboo, by nature, is composed of two material types, a series of strong fibrous strands and a more flexible cellulose surrounding.
The fibrous strands are densely populated near the outside of the bamboo and allow bamboo to have an incredibly high tensile strength when compared to other naturally grown plants like wood.
The cellulose surrounds the fibrous strands and becomes more common towards the inside wall of the bamboo. The cellulose provides excellent vibration dampening and holds the fibrous strands in place.

Using this type of bamboo allows citrocycles to have a minor amount of flexibility in the side by side direction, while being stiff in the forward and reverse directions. This minor flexibility delivers the maximum amount of power at to the road for every stroke.

What Sparked This Idea?
Citrocycle is founded around the idea that there is always a better way to ride a bicycle.
A citrocycle bamboo bicycle isn't just some bike pushed out of a factory after its the initial creation.
Citrocycle bamboo bicycles are thoroughly hand crafted and tailored to the design of each individual person; utilizing materials that are tried and tested, but in ways that are not commonly seen before. The Start
In 2014 five men from South Dakota State University embarked on a journey to raise money for a school in the impoverished country of Honduras, a project called The Great 48. This post graduate trip and the realization of how rigid and jolting aluminum bicycle frames can be was what gave birth to the brain child now called citrocycle.

Whenever someone says, "The first time is the hardest," they're completely right. The first bicycle frame that could call it self a citrocycle was the result of hours of research, moments of frustration, gallons of tea, and a plethora of farm shop tools that were not designed to make bicycle frames. But hey, it was a hand made bike, and its owner could not have been more proud.

Once the first cycling frame was done and was working well, the second one seemed to be a bit easier and took a fraction of the time to build. With welding skills improving, bicycle building was becoming fun, but it was also becoming addicting.

Since the early days of working on the farm there have been countless citrocycle improvements, including a move into a new workspace, many and never-ending tool upgrades, frame material advances, and numerous production quality improvements.
This constant drive for increased innovation has led citrocycle bamboo bicycles to go from recycling a 1984 Trek's components, to utilizing 3D printing, high-carbon airplane grade steel, and a laser frame alignment system to ensure the citrocycles made today are similar to the first, but yet different in all the right places.

How much does a frame cost without the components?
If you are interested in a citrocycle bamboo bicycle but would like to outfit it with your own parts, it is possible to solely purchase the bicycle frame.
If just purchasing the frame, the frame cost will be $1,100 for all available sizes and all colors.
In the case of purchasing only the frame, citrocycle is not liable for component failure, or incorrect component installation causing frame damage, or frame damage due to component failure.
